24.05.2025: Volvo 240/260 Jahrestreffen

I’ve wanted to be there for a few years now, and this year we finally made it: I travelled with Bluey, our pretty Volvo 240 Super Classic, to the 20th annual meeting of the Volvo 240 / 260 friends near Fulda at the Hessenmühle (https://www.volvo240260.info). And it was great: lovely people, pretty Volvos, relaxed atmosphere — simply a perfect Saturday in early summer.

It looked not very far on the map and we thought to ourselves: We could combine the trip to Fulda with a visit to my daughter in Erfurt, then she could look after the dog, then I could drive to Fulda on Saturday morning and enjoy the day, but then we would definitely like to watch the DFB Cup final together on Saturday evening in a nice pub in Erfurt, and then I should be able to drive home relaxed again on Sunday. That’s what we thought, and that’s what we did.

Bluey and I arrived at the Hessenmühle just before 11 a.m. and there were already twenty to thirty cars there – so I wouldn’t have wanted to arrive much later. And since the weather was really great, I immediately unpacked my camera and spent the next few hours chatting (with people I already knew and people I didn’t know yet), looking, taking photos, admiring Volvos (there must have been over fifty cars in total), chatting again and walking around, so that I completely forgot to eat something in between.

Personal highlights were Eckart Stuhlmann’s 244 Turbo, which had travelled from Hamburg, and a beautiful brown Volvo 242 from the seventies. In the afternoon, there was a short speech by the organiser Karsten, the award ceremony for the best participants (nothing won, but well done) and a few nice giveaways, which fortunately included a packet of cinnamon buns. That saved my life and blood sugar levels.

Then it was already time to head out through the beautiful, hilly Hessenland, stopping at Eisenbach Castle to take photos, chat again — and eat some delicious cake. It’s unbelievable how quickly time passed, because Bluey and I had to leave again at five o’clock so as not to miss the cup final – which VfB Stuttgart (our hometown!) won. And our dog Jesse was also very happy when he saw me again. So: a weekend packed like two, but that’s just the way it has to be sometimes. Many thanks to Karsten for the great organisation, and I’ll definitely be back.
