Over twenty years ago, when we were a young family, we wanted to drive a safe and stylish family car. And so we bought our very first Volvo 240 estate — a “Polar” Edition, fresh from Italy. Our children loved it and nicknamed her “Emma”, after the indestructible steam engine from the children’s book “Jim Button and Luke the Engine Driver”. The enthusiasm has remained and today we have a nice little collection of Volvo 240s.

“What makes them great is that they are usable classics. You can get in one every day of the year, any season, be comfortable, cozy, travel anywhere you need to go, haul a whole bunch of stuff, put the family in it. It’s usable, and you don’t have to worry about it.”

In 2022, we started our journey on Instagram with a challenge: “Lets post one Volvo 240 picture per day, and let’s see what happens”. We honestly didn’t expect anyone to be really interested in this topic. Now we have quite a few followers.

With this blog, we want to tell you more stories about the Volvo 240 than is possible on Instagram. And I quite like writing. We want to share the lifestyle and adventures of Volvo 240 drivers around the world and will ask them about their cars and their stories. We will share tips and how-to’s and also look at the history of the Volvo 240. But I’m honestly not a talented car mechanic, so I’ll leave the repair instructions to others.

Our favourite is the iconic five-door Volvo 240 estate – the archetype of a practical and stylish “station wagon”. So of course it’s also about our small fleet of now four Volvo 240 station wagons that are on the road, when the weather is nice, here in southern Germany. And since we have two Swiss-spec Volvo 240 “Classic” in our collection, we have named the website after them.
